"AI does not write code the way I would", is a typical statement and that is not a problem of the model. It is a smell that we are not giving it enough harness to work under optimal conditions.

SDD (Spec-Driven Development) consists of developing from a detailed specification instead of a loose prompt, and RPI (Research, Plan, Implement) is the specific way in which we execute it. Research of the code, plan, and only then implementation.

This was our turning point to increase the success ratio when programming with AI. The key is to correct deviations before a single line of code exists , when changing direction is still almost free.

And this goes well beyond plan mode. Plan mode is great, but we can boost it so that it persists over time and holds up for much bigger tasks .
